Does anyone know the year when the planets are aligned?
#5 - Anonymous - 02/09/2011 - 19:37
The next partial planetary alignment will occur in 2040, on September 8th for Mars, Mercury, Venus and Earth.

As for total planetary alignment, according to doomsayers it's going to be somewhere in 2012. Most astronomists agree that it's not likely to happen any time before the sun goes tits up.

hmm... ithought the sun is bigger...

The distances between the planets are also vastly out of proportion. In reality the terrestial planets are in a relatively dense cluster around the sun, while the outer planets are very, very far away (which is why Jupiter appears to be about the same size as Venus from Earth, even though Jupiter is a colossal beast and Venus is 4/5 of Earth's volume).

tl;dr space is big but the person who made this was going for the artistic effect.

^ meant "see #3"

At 2507 there is a nice alligning, but far from perfect.
#11 - owowo - 02/10/2011 - 12:32
I could never calculate how long it would take these planets to align themselves, regardless of our suns lifespan. But if you just want to 'see' the planets aligned perfectly, enter "8.6e305" into the year. Any digit smaller than that won't work.

I'm sorry, make that "8.6e307"....
#13 - anonymous - 02/15/2011 - 00:51
Also the orbits of the planets is not circular.

Never mind, i saw the blue arrow and didnt understand that it was actually the date and not pluto, but it still raises the question: is pluto still a planet from our solar system or not anymore???
