I don't believe in jesus, but I don't feel like this guy is proving anything =/

There are loads of contradictions and inaccuracies in the bible.
I find it futile to discuss religion, since it's based on faith and not fact. I'm confident that future generations will be almost completely atheistic or agnostic, so I don't torture myself over this debate.
#2 - Tibeh - 05/21/2011 - 18:52
I bet pastafariasm will be the major religion in 22nd century, and source of much of the oppression against atheists.

So, strawman and "no true Scotsman" makes for proof huh?
It requires a literal interpretation of cherry-picked passages from the Bible, and then if you disagree you must not be a "normal" person.

Presented confidently and succinctly, I'll give him that. Just falls flat on execution.

That, and yesterday was May 21st. "Doomsday". Well, I'm pretty sure I felt no earthquakes, nor did I see people ( ... )ing floating around.

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."
- Matthew 24:36

Although it seems that some "Christians" have real difficulties remembering that passage.

I'm sorry #6, but I'm no ( ... )ing pope.

Religion started lots of debates and shit, like #9 said. And if religion didn't exist, we'd be 2000 years ahead in everything. I call quits on this.
#11 - Shade - 05/23/2011 - 15:55
"And if religion didn't exist, we'd be 2000 years ahead in everything."

2000 years? Nice arbitrary number.

Ahead? What frame of reference do you have for that, other than some nebulous notion of 'progress'?

It wouldn't matter if religion existed or not. We'd still have politics, that's what really kills people.
#12 - derpity derp - 05/23/2011 - 21:26
#12 are you sure?
look at middle-east: the terrorists in example are killing in the name of god/allah.
look at afrika: the church is prohibiting the usage of condoms - aids is killing a hundrets of people every year.
in the past the church said the earth was flat and the center of the universe. all that telling you anything else, were executed as a heretic. without the church, PROBABLY we would now travel to the stars.
religions - ALL OF THEM - simply are B_U_L_L_S_H_I_T

Lol, both 12# and 13# are right. Politics are indeed shitty enough. Back to religion again, though.

There's wars. "The terrorists in example are killing in the name of god/allah."
Those wars make waste of things. Men. Technology. Guns. Things like that.

With all the men and technology that were eradicated in wars, there could have been made more buildings, more food, more drugs, more space-exploration. But nooo. We all have to suck god's ( ... ).

Religion's also why I'm going to skip school today. Cheers.

#13, Actually blame the Romans, They had the technology and the thinkers available to start the industrial Revolution, but they didn't because some Roman soldier killed Archemedes, and they had an abundance of slaves so they didn't automate any processes because then the slaves would have had no purpose and may have staged a revolt. The Middle ages was actually the best for Technology because the Black Death reduced the population to the point where automation was necessary. Additionally you are taking the views of a specific denomination or small portion of the religion and applying it to the majority. While many policies of the Catholic church and other orthodox denomination may be seen as spreading AIDS in Africa many of them discard it thinking of AIDS as Gods punishment for adulterers. After all if you only have sex with your wife you won't expose yourself to AIDS and thus you don't need a condom. I'm not saying it's right but think from another person's view before you judge.

"I find it futile to discuss religion, since it's based on faith and not fact."

Problem is that many fanatics disagree with that opinion. Retards :-O
