asdfg: I've always disregarded this anime as pointless fanservice, but if its anything close to this amw... I'm sold... (January 19, 2013, 4:03 pm)

J: It's more pretentious than anything. Depends on whether you like that & whether you think it's working. (January 19, 2013, 5:58 pm)

Infurnus: I've always skipped AMVs on this site, but this one kept me stuck to it (January 26, 2013, 1:19 pm)

anon: The animation is better in quality than most films and it's supremely pleasing to the eye which is why the skilled editors can make the AMVs entrancing to aublaances who have never seen nor heard of the series. Outside of that fact, however, the monogatari series is actually a complete letdown to experience. The fictional framework that supports the setting of this particular story (Supernatural creatures living alongside ordinary humans) is a solid one, but it is mostly implemented as a back seat aspect of the plot. Much more focus is given to slice of life elements where as many fanservice elements as possible are shoehorned in resulting in long sessions of highly region specific banter (Including innuendo, especially with elementary school girls) being exchanged while the camera constantly angles around on breasts, lips, panties, behinds, and legs, and the main character's face. In a rough summary, the fantastical elements (which hold the best animation) of the monogatari series are at stark odds with the regional slice of life element to the characters' lives to the point that it feels like it should have been decided upon one way or the other. The high-budget animation serves as a smoothing overtone for all of this, causing the viewer to just get lost in the beautiful visuals during the fantastical segments and smothered by the fetishism during the slice of life ones. This tactic is clearly geared towards generating sales by incorporating the biggest genre draws in the anime market and keeping viewer attention away from the lack of meat to any meaningful aspect of the character interactions and developments with the constant blaaual provocations and top notch animation. Even shorter - You can metaphorically (and possibly literally) masturbate to everything involved in this show yet feel completely unsatisfied with how unsubstantial it all is when you finish. Anon: #7 Meh, the books were written with one key factor in mind, to have silly conversations. All tho, the books were filled with blaaual tension left and right. So SHAFT was was faithful to the source material, for what that is worth. (August 16, 2017, 5:55 am)
