This is a interesting proof of concept for genetic algorithm.

If you let the flash run long enough you will tend to a solution that should be quite good at this problem.

... or you end up with population of the essentialy the same units, thats unable to evelove in any meaningfull way - you end up 'rand'ing your solution, which is frigging dumb
#3 - noname - 04/19/2009 - 18:35
needs to stop "respawn" when you get something that doesnt crash
#4 - zuh - 04/19/2009 - 18:37
God, but what are the rules?? Why do some of these die? Are the red balls fuel tanks? Why do these stop at the uphill after the Hill of Death? Why do they seem to slowly evolve the capacity to go uphill, but only here? Is it fuel or a timer? What.
#5 - Naeddyr - 04/19/2009 - 20:41
Blue balls are wheels, red balls are vulnerabilities. The structure restarts when either:

A. A vulnerability hits the ground or a wheel
B. The structure is stretched beyond a certain tolerence

The variables are the size of the wheels and vulnerabilities, the length of the wires that connect the balls, and the overall speed of the wheels.

But yeah it's very difficult for it to get beyond that drop, since most designs by then will tip over.

ya mine respawn as soon as thay stary to go up the hill to. thay are not tipping over or stretching. still real cool thow.

i wish this worked:-[]

this flash as a screensaver
http://www.sendspace.com/file/zty8cc

I made this into a screensaver for the fun of it, enjoy!
#9 - Unagi - 04/20/2009 - 07:40
maybe it's a variable for durability... mine survive both the great hill and the drop of doom, but crash shortly after...

also, you can "manipulate" the rigg with the arrowkeys...
#10 - zuh - 04/20/2009 - 10:13
It's a bloody timer, time runs out there for most. :| Presumably if your carchure is fast enough, it'll get further. Man.
#11 - Naeddyr - 04/20/2009 - 10:59
is it just me or is the screensaver not working
#12 - Baboon Lover - 04/20/2009 - 11:47
This would be awesome without that timer.

I guess thats not quite legit file... /r/ comfirmation

It should continue after the Hill of Death. Its really boring that you end up with same models that run the same course and respawn at the same point all the time...
#14 - LordJebe - 04/20/2009 - 18:09
yea, aftter 24 hr, the thing is running only slightly longer than when it started, and hasn't changed anything
#15 - B4K4 - 04/21/2009 - 14:28
#16
Comfirmed, you have to wait an eternity for them to go further... Im going to look how far the track goes.
#16 - LordJebe - 04/21/2009 - 18:02
48 hr, and the track changed
#17 - B4K4 - 04/22/2009 - 00:33
Why does it just stop when it manages the really hard part and not even being close of hitting anything...?
#18 - asdasdasd - 04/22/2009 - 22:54
Very, very cool. Would you mind sending me the source files? I'm not interesting in stealing your work, just want to experiment with it on my own.

it needs lube
#20 - paron - 06/19/2009 - 09:56
I believe that the "timer" mentioned earlier is 10 seconds. After that the vehicle "dies".

The timer is probably there to prevent certain creations from getting stuck. Sadly though it hinders some creations from going as far as they are possible to.
#21 - Anony-mouse - 12/02/2009 - 00:33
It dies after 10 seconds so that evolving would be faster. As the vehicle gets better over time, it can go further in that 10s time. Given enough time it will reach a point where you cannot possibly travel farther in 10 second with the physical simulation of the program.

The statistics in the top right corner give statistics about the average and best time of the sets of 20 individuals, you can clearly see that the trend is upwards.

Loop game.
Well, that's more like a game, not flash loop.
Coz God damn arrows actually works. Down - slowing down, left and right - balance, up - ... probably nothing.
#23 - anonymous - 01/14/2010 - 17:21
10 sec limit
Why do you added this 10 sec limit?
#24 - Art - 03/19/2010 - 08:25
10 sec limit
Sorry for my English, why did you add this limit? My bicycle ends up with this limit permanenly
#25 - Art - 03/19/2010 - 13:31
mines broken :-(
#26 - gosh - 04/28/2010 - 08:08
Clearly, an intelligent designer is needed.
