I have no way of knowing if "misaki" is a boy's or girl's name, so that really doesn't help your argument.

I would normally assuming that any anime character that doesn't have 5 gallon breasts to be a male, however, the way the character walks, as well as the hair cut confuses me.

The character "Near" from death note gave me no end of trouble with trying to figure out if he was actually a he.

From what I've read(lol wikipedia), it seems that males trying to be as feminine looking as possible but without outright crossdressing is actually a "style" in japan. Somehow, this doesn't surprise me.

And Near from Death Note was easy to tell. Only time I had trouble was twins from Utawarerumono... I always assumed they were girls but it was revealed in game, that they're boys (saw Anime before original content: game)
