Anonymous: Metaphysical, technological, drama anime set to a cheery, 1969, bubblegum pop tune. A perfectly fitting combination. Next up: Elfen Lied and Boogie Wonderland. (May 30, 2009, 5:59 pm)

tripfaggot: #1 is a troll. No living being would enjoy Lain nor Elfen Lied. (May 30, 2009, 6:02 pm)

Raute#imba²: every living being who doesnt like the masterpiece 'Lain' is a lil' narutard and fapping to pokemon and other pedo magicialgirl animes kk? thx (May 30, 2009, 7:41 pm)

dfgsdfs: would be 5 because of lain but there is too much suck and fail in this overall ugly old song and overly boring and no it doesn't fit at all (May 30, 2009, 8:13 pm)

DerfLlennod: #2 is a kid no kid could understand the complex storytelling of Lain, Elfen Lied, and even others like Akira, Betterman, and Ghost in the Shell (I know there are more, it's been awhile since I have watched some underground stories.) you actually will have to sit there, watch, and understand it all before you can say it sucks. on top of that, why are the ones I mentioned one of the most popular then? shouldn't they just be flops? (May 31, 2009, 6:14 am)

Fdsa: I think #2 tried to amuse us with the irony of starting his post with calling someone else a troll. Calm down everybody and let's DANCE! (May 31, 2009, 10:06 am)

tnynty: #5 I have not seen Lain, but please don't even mention Elfen Lied and Akira in the same sentence. Elfen Lied's complex storytelling consists of vectors chopping heads of and nyuu, with the occasional revealing of emo-dark-secrets. Hated that crap and cannot understand why people actually like it. (May 31, 2009, 11:33 pm)

TheCancer: Gonna go ahead and call him a troll before stomping his nuts into chowder. (June 1, 2009, 6:32 pm)

dfgsfs: #7 well said: lain, akira, ghost in the shell -> oldschool transhuman/posthuman technology centered science fiction, mostly based or more or less realistic science (they do have non-scientific elements but the technology and society is mostly realistic) Texhnolyze or even Ergo proxy or Blame or Gunnm (battle angel aelita) would work as well though they are more of an alternative reality elfen lied -> fantasy gore with cute girls and a lot of emoness and little to no realistic science or worldbuilding sure it can be fun but no, it's still a totally different type of anime (June 1, 2009, 9:45 pm)

rerfrhy: #8 Go ahead big boy. If you want storytelling with good plots, I would suggest reading books. I haven't really enjoyed watching anime simply because of the fact, that there is rarely a good storyline in them (there are exceptions), and because airheads keep suggesting me animes without any substance. P.S. Also hated ergo proxy. (June 2, 2009, 10:31 am)

not Brand X: I sat and watched Lain. I understand it. It's not as good as people give it credit for. Science fiction is speculative fiction, a "what-if" story, but Lain was just a lot of "isn't this cool?" and "conspiracy OMG!" and "ghosts and magic but look a computer so it's sciencey and we're gonna lecture you for an entire episode so it's DEEEEEEP." I mean, [spoiler] is a goddamn homonculus, and the story ends with "and it was aaaaaaall a dreeeam!" Jesus. All that said, this flash was a lot of work to vector the scenes, and giving it bubblegum rock is just perverse ^_^ (June 2, 2009, 2:10 pm)

#10100111001#: It doesn't make any difference if the subject of the anime/film is about ghosts/magic/computer or quantum physics. The sticking point is how logical the whole story is linked NOT how good this suits in reality. Lain is inter alia a philosophical story (existentialism->solipsism) But the more u drift from reality, the harder it is to create a good, logical and linked story. Mushishi e.g. is one of the best anime (and the subject of this anime has nothing much do with reality - classic physics are often rejected), with only very little logical mistakes, because the creator takes the advantage to tell single episodes without a significant relationship within all ep's. [this doesn't mean single independent ep's are better than one big story of 10-20 ep's. Mushishi abstain building up different character relationsships aside from the protagonist Ginko] (June 2, 2009, 5:17 pm)

ergergerg: #12 It would seem you have missed your assignment completely. Would you like to explain yourself or to try again? (June 4, 2009, 1:04 am)

jkadfls: would someone pls give #13 a picture-book or something? btw checksum from 13 is 4 (for #13: one and three is four) - and fourth character from alphabet is 'D' like Dumb4ss q.e.d. (June 4, 2009, 1:40 am)

Anonymous: Note to self: in the future, do not post that apples are to meatloaf as oranges are to lasagna. It will spark a week-long flamewar about whether oranges are better than apples, how the two compare to mangoes, and whether fruit tastes good or not. The intended point, that apples have nothing to do with meatloaf, just as there are no oranges in lasagna, will be completely missed. (June 4, 2009, 3:07 pm)

16bit: ANIMU: SRS BUSINESS (June 4, 2009, 7:17 pm)

Peter Pan: ICH BIN KLUK ;AM (June 4, 2009, 8:18 pm)

44d4dd64d6dd4: Discussions that have some meaning are very welcome in my opinion and I see no flames here. You kids need to learn some indifference, without it you can't survive in the real world. Also in recent news: I still hate Elfen Lied and Ergo Proxy. Is someone willing to explain their COMPLEX storytelling to me. I just don't see anything good in them. I must be dumb right? (June 4, 2009, 10:47 pm)

user: Reminds me on Neon genesis Evangelion -powerlines -generating eye (like EVA-01) (August 10, 2009, 6:19 pm)
