At what point in the game does it ask for money? I'm currently at lvl 16 blasting away and haven't even seen one nag screen about having to pay to play...

Just found the "continue" button, that the one you meant? How boring unlimited continues would be...

Made it to wave 27. Around that point you get fireball-tossing demons which reanimate corpses into skeletons, which quickly make things unfair. Not even a dense cluster of turrets can keep up with skeleton hell.

Some tips for starting out: keep a slower zombie alive at the end of each wave. It'll give you time to repair barricades and reload your guns. Opening up the courtyard (two doors east of the start) is a good idea, as it gives you a bit of breathing room when you're being overwhelmed by more enemies than you can handle. The $1500 rifle (not the machine gun), though slow and limited in ammo, will kill every low level zombie in a straight line in a single shot.

#4 - there's weapons that you have to pay for too. Press space and click "premium". Chances are good that it's impossible to beat the higher levels without them.

As it turns out, the framerate goes to crap on wave 28. Even with the most expensive gun, three $100000 turrets, at least as many $40000 turrets, and the turret mechanic skill unlocked (doubles turret ammo), the skeletons had no trouble handing my posterior to me.

Took a few tries and the second to last rank (improved turrets ammo and reload time) but I finally managed to beat all the 30 lvls with a score around 189k. Had eight 10k$ turrets and one 4k$ turret along with the medium machine gun. Once past lvl 27 it pretty much only gets easier, didn't even have to shoot at lvl 30.

I had to get the final rank but I finally pulled it off, and in fact, I scored in the top 20. Whoo. #9's right -- if you make it past the nasty difficultly curve from 26-28, it becomes absurdly easy once you have around five heavy turrets.
